New virtual race features a celebration of love and free shoes!
VR Pro, the team behind Chilly Half Marathon, launches the Heart and Sole race
VR Pro Races, the team behind the ever-popular Chilly Half Marathon and Frosty 5K, is announcing another great new event dubbed the Heart and Sole virtual race. Yes, this one is all about love, something we could all use a little bit more of these days.
"We're proud to offer our runners and walkers another great race to help them achieve their fitness goals,” says Kelly Arnott, race director and VR Pro co-founder. “Connecting this heart-themed race with a fundraiser for cardiac patients makes it even more special.”
VR Pro is asking runners to grab a loved one: partner, friend, family member, heck even a pet, to run or walk this race together. And there are plenty of options available to suit all levels including a 5K, 14K and 21.1K.
Want more to love about the Heart and Sole race? According to Arnott, VR Pro will be giving away 20 pairs of ASICS running shoes with contests and draws being held each week.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a VR Pro event without a charitable aspect. In 2020, the Burlington-based group raised more than $140,000 for local charities from hospitals to food banks and has already raised $1,200 after the first week of 2021.
The Heart and Sole Race supports Hamilton General Hospital Foundation. A minimum donation of $5 will be added to each race entry, which will go directly to the foundation. Race participants can also collect donations from friends and family.
“You have the power to help put the right tools and equipment into the hands of caregivers at Hamilton General Hospital, which performs more cardiac surgeries than any other hospital in Ontario,” Arnott says, who is asking participants to follow VR Pro on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to stay up to date on event information.
The VR Pro social media feeds are also where runners and walkers can find information regarding the awesome giveaways the team has planned for this event, and connect with local runners.
Sponsors and partners for this event include Race Roster, Muskoka Brewery, Clif Bar & Company and Hunter Amenities
With COVID-19 still here, and a number of months to go before vaccinations take hold, virtual events are more important than ever before to keep people active and engaged with the community.
“At this time when we have to social distance to avoid the spread and our real races have been cancelled, we can still all go out and run or walk and train,” says Kelly Arnott, co-founder of VR Pro Races. “Goals are so important and therefore having something substantial to work towards like your first 5K or 10K.”
