Chlorine-damaged hair is par for the course for many triathletes in the off season. Hours of indoor pool training can strip your hair of its protective oils, making it dry and brittle. Here are some tips on how to prevent chlorine damage:
Before you even enter the pool, saturate your hair with water. This will reduce the amount of chlorinated water your hair absorbs.
Coat the ends of your hair with conditioner before you put your swim cap on. Be sure to leave the areas of exposed skin around your face and neck clear of conditioner, so your swim cap isn't slipping off on your first lap.
Thoroughly rinse your hair after your swim and wash it with a chlorine stripping shampoo designed especially for swimmers.
