Runners can celebrate Canada Day with this virtual race

VR Pro's latest includes a chance to win a $1,000 gift card

Runners looking for a unique way to celebrate this Canada Day can look no further with the return of the VR Pro Canada Day 5K, 10K, and 21.1K Virtual Races sponsored by Silver Linings Healthcare. And this time, there is jewelry.

For these events, runners choose from three different distance options, and complete their run or walk anytime between June 1 and July 15.

“We are hoping that everyone will come together and run or walk 5K, 10K, or 21.1K with us wherever you are in Canada to celebrate this great country of ours,” says Kelly Arnott, co-founder of VR Pro Races.

VR Pro Races is the team behind such popular events as the Chilly Half Marathon and Frosty 5K.

All race participants will get a one-of-a-kind Canada Day Tech t-shirt, a full-size Canadian Flag, and a finisher medal.

"It’s a shirt you can wear so proudly, celebrating Canada,” Arnott says.

The race is just $40 plus $10 for shipping.

And here’s the Canada Day clincher. The finisher medal is a box that opens like a locket. One lucky person will receive a $1,000 gift card for Barry's Jewellers. According to VR Pro, the winner will receive a fake ring inside of the medal notifying them that they won the gift card.

Each race has a unique sponsor. The Canada Day 5K is brought to you by Resident Care Pharmacy. The Canada Day 10K is brought to you by Silver Specialty Rx. The Canada Day Half Marathon (21.1K) is brought to you by Silver Fox Pharmacy.

Virtual runs continue to give runners something to strive for whether it’s a first 5K or something longer. Whether you’re crossing the finish line with a herd, or crossing your own virtual finish line at the end of the driveway, the sense of accomplishment is real.

“At this time when we have to social distance to avoid the spread and real races have been cancelled, we can still all go out and run or walk and train! Goals are so important and therefore having something substantial to work towards,” Arnott says.
