In the heart of beautiful Simcoe County at the legendary Hardwood Ski and Bike, an electrifying adventure awaits trail running enthusiasts — Timber24. Inspired by the iconic Ragnar Trail events that once graced the plush woodsy trails, the organizers of the event scheduled for Aug. 24-25 are resurrecting the magic with a fresh twist and an abundance of excitement.
In an interview with Get Out There, the event team shared the backstory behind Timber24’s inception. Remembering the infectious vibe and sense of community that characterized the Ragnar Trail gatherings, they were determined to bring back that same spirit to Canadian trails. Thus, Timber24 was born—a celebration of camaraderie, endurance, and sheer exhilaration.
The Essence of Timber24
Nestled amidst the picturesque scenery of Hardwood Ski and Bike, Timber24 is not merely a race; it’s an immersive two-day festival experience. Participants, organized into teams of eight or four, embark on a relentless challenge: tackling an 8 km lap every hour for a full 24 hours.
“Unlike a traditional relay, Timber24 will have a runner from each team start every hour on the hour,” says Timber24 spokesperson Christine Sharpe. “This way everyone will know exactly what time they run and every runner will get the thrill of a start line.”
But Timber24 is about more than just pushing physical limits. It’s a celebration of unity, friendship, and the sheer joy of being out on the trails. With a dynamic atmosphere buzzing with excitement, participants are transported into a realm where adventure knows no bounds.
A Festival Like No Other
As the sun sets over Barrie, Timber24 transforms into a vibrant hub of activity. Picture this: teams setting up camp in a bustling village, adorned with creative decorations that reflect their unique spirit. The air is filled with anticipation as runners prepare to take on the challenge that lies ahead.
But it’s not just about the run; it’s about the entire experience. From a bustling retail and expo area offering the latest gear and exclusive merchandise to round-the-clock food and beverage options to keep participants fueled, every aspect of Timber24 is designed to enhance the adventure.
“This event is for everyone,” Sharpe adds. “New runners who are looking for a challenge with friends, or seasoned trail runners who are looking for a unique event. This event, because accommodations are on site, is a great destination event.”
Embracing the Celebration
As the night unfolds, Timber24 comes alive with a palpable sense of celebration. The Beer Garden becomes a focal point for post-run revelry, offering runners the perfect opportunity to unwind and toast to their achievements. And the fun doesn’t stop there—think outdoor movies under the stars, lively campfire gatherings, and a myriad of games that keep the party going until the break of dawn.
“This event is going to be a celebration with areas to chill out, have fun, meet new people, get a mini massage, or watch a late movie, oh yeah, and challenge yourself by running the 8km trail a few times along the way,” Sharpe says. “No Olympic medals will be given out here. We are looking to foster an atmosphere of fun and accomplishment for all levels of participants.”
Beyond the Finish Line
Timber24 isn’t just an event; it’s a journey—one that extends far beyond the finish line. With its unique blend of adrenaline-pumping challenges and vibrant camaraderie, this trail running extravaganza promises to leave participants with memories that will last a lifetime.
So, whether you’re a seasoned trail veteran or a newcomer looking for your next adventure, mark your calendars for Timber24—the ultimate celebration of endurance, community, and the sheer joy of hitting the trails.
