The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, is unveiling a new wellness experience: BASIN Glacial Waters. Opening this summer, this “world-class” thermal bathing facility promises to bring a luxury wellness experience to an already luxurious locale with its breathtaking location in Banff National Park.
A Perfect Fit for Lake Louise
BASIN Glacial Waters is located along the shore of the iconic lake in a space designed to blend into the landscape. The design, led by renowned architect Matteo Thun, embraces minimalism and organic textures in a reflection of the alpine scenery.
The experience is inspired by the practice of thermotherapy, which involves moving through different temperatures of water to stimulate and restore the body. But BASIN Glacial Waters also brings a modern touch to the historic tradition, offering a series of self-guided wellness journeys that focus on reflection, renewal, and vitality.
The space features a range of carefully curated experiences that encourage guests to explore their personal well-being. Whether it’s the dramatic views of the lake and mountains from the outdoor wellness terrace or the soothing, world-class spa treatments, BASIN offers a unique wellness journey.
“This incredible space encompasses the trifecta of luxe wellness in the modern age; the wide-open vistas directly exposing world-renowned Lake Louise and its surrounding peaks – seen from the interior of the space yet magnified from the outdoor wellness terrace; visionary, naturally-inspired architecture and superior thermal bathing features; and finally, Fairmont Hotels’ approach to world-class service and luxury in every detail,” said Emlyn Brown, Senior Vice President, Wellbeing, Strategy, Design & Development, Accor Group. “BASIN will present an unrivalled, truly indelible, 360-degree wellness experience. There’s no other bathing facility like it in North America.”
What’s it like?
Upon entering BASIN, guests will pass through a calming, low-lit passageway that sets the tone for the journey ahead. The space features dramatic, arched windows that mirror the style of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise’s historic exterior, allowing natural light to flood in and enhance the atmosphere.
BASIN is designed to encourage both personal reflection and shared moments of relaxation. Guests can choose from a variety of thermal experiences, including Finnish and Bio saunas, two traditional steam rooms, and an infinity pool that flows seamlessly from the interior to the outdoor terrace. Other highlights include a circular reflexology pool, a Kneipp Walk for contrast bathing, and a cold plunge pool that provides an invigorating refresh.
After the thermal journey, guests unwind in the Silent Salt Relax room, where Himalayan salt wall naturally ionizes the air, creating a serene atmosphere for meditation and reflection. For deeper muscle relaxation, the Hot Stone room offers heated stone slab beds to soothe the body.
“The introduction of BASIN Glacial Waters is the reimagining of alpine wellness in Lake Louise,” said Tracy Lowe, General Manager, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. “As a world-class facility, it elevates the resort experience entirely, becoming a destination in its own right. We could not be more excited to unveil BASIN to the world.”
