Canmore's favourite running event set to return this September

The 26th annual Canmore Rocky Mountain Half, 10K and 5K scheduled for Sept. 11

If a side of gorgeous mountain views and a delightfully scenic small town are high on your list of running race requirements, then the Canmore Rocky Mountain Half Marathon, 10K and 5K could be just the gem. One of the most scenic and best-run races in the country, the 26th annual Canmore event is on tap for Sept. 11.

Last year, the event made a few tweaks to the course for the first time in a decade, and runners loved them. Expect more of the same this year, says race director Jamie Carrick.

“The changes allow runners to spend more time on the scenic gravel paths alongside the Bow River,” he says. “We had some great feedback from those changes, so they are staying this year, which is a fun improvement to our race courses.”

After a cancelled race in 2020, and a 2021 event that snuck in under the Delta wave of the pandemic, Carrick says he is thrilled to be able to return to full capacity for September’s race.

“This year we are ecstatic to be able to return and to host our race at full capacity, and it's clear that our runners are very keen to return as well,” he says.

Although there is still room to register, excitement is high and the entries are coming in quickly, so don’t delay to avoid disappointment.

Carrick says nothing compares to a running event in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in beautiful Canmore, Alberta.

“The running race follows a beautiful route through woodlands, beside mountain streams, and through a historic mine site, with stunning views of mountain scenery,” he says. “Fast and flat, the race course is ideal for all levels of runners. All runners receive a custom Canmore Rocky Mountain Half Marathon Buff in their race packages, and the finisher medals for all distances are crafted locally from Red Alder wood.”

The Canmore event is fantastic for runners of all levels. The Half Marathon is a combination of asphalt and high-quality gravel with several short climbs and winding paths and features a gradual incline. While the beautiful 10k course is appropriate for both beginners and expert runners/walkers. And, finally, appropriate for all running levels, the 5km course is fast, fun and set in the middle of beautiful Canmore.

This charming Canadian Rockies town is located a short drive from Calgary and is also a fantastic destination race for those looking to combine a little mountain getaway with a fun and festive running event.
