Basecamp Resorts Partners with POW Canada and Veritree to Combat Climate Change

As climate change continues to affect the natural beauty of mountain destinations across Western Canada, more companies are stepping up to take action. Basecamp Resorts, a hospitality brand with properties in some of the region’s most scenic mountain towns, is making a significant commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The company recently announced a partnership with two key environmental organizations: POW (Protect Our Winters) Canada and veritree. Through these partnerships, Basecamp Resorts is dedicating $150,000 over the next three years to help protect and restore the natural landscapes that attract adventurers from around the world.

Partnering with POW Canada: Advocacy for Climate Action

POW Canada is the Canadian branch of Protect Our Winters, a global movement founded by professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones. POW is a community of outdoor enthusiasts, athletes, and brands working to advocate for policy solutions to the climate crisis. Basecamp Resorts has committed to supporting POW Canada’s efforts in raising awareness of the urgency of climate action. The brand’s support will help fund advocacy campaigns like $now Me the Money, which urges the public to take action on climate change through petitions and policy engagement.

Basecamp’s partnership also includes direct contributions to POW Canada’s work, with a pledge of $25,000 annually over the next three years. The company’s commitment goes beyond financial support; Basecamp Resorts will assist with events, activations, and fundraising efforts to further POW’s mission. As part of this partnership, Basecamp also plans to incorporate more sustainable practices into its own operations, such as investing in energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction across its properties.

Supporting Reforestation through Veritree

In addition to its collaboration with POW Canada, Basecamp Resorts is joining forces with veritree, a Vancouver-based platform that connects businesses with verified reforestation projects. Veritree works to combat climate change by restoring forests that have been damaged by wildfires, deforestation, and other environmental stressors. As part of its three-year commitment, Basecamp Resorts will donate $25,000 CAD annually to fund reforestation efforts in Alberta and British Columbia. This will support projects like the Sawle Lake Smart Forest in Alberta, one of veritree’s most advanced reforestation initiatives.

By contributing to these restoration projects, Basecamp Resorts is helping to mitigate the effects of climate change while supporting biodiversity and ecosystem recovery. The company will also work with veritree to raise awareness of these efforts through community engagement, activations, and campaigns aimed at fostering a deeper connection between travelers and the environment. Progress updates and tracking of the impact of these projects, including the number of trees planted, will be made publicly available on Basecamp’s website.

A Commitment to the Places We Love

Basecamp Resorts operates in some of the most pristine and ecologically sensitive regions in Western Canada. From the alpine lakes and forests of British Columbia to the rugged peaks of the Canadian Rockies, the company’s properties provide guests with direct access to world-class outdoor experiences. For the team at Basecamp, these landscapes are not just business locations—they are places of personal significance and natural beauty that must be preserved for future generations.

“The natural beauty of the mountains and forests in British Columbia and Alberta is a huge part of why people visit these destinations,” said founder and CEO Sky McLean, emphasizing the importance of giving back to the environments that sustain the company and its guests. “However, we’re seeing firsthand the impacts of climate change and habitat loss. Through our partnerships with POW Canada and veritree, we’re hoping to make a tangible difference in restoring and protecting the lands we love so much.”

Ethical Travel and Sustainability: A Shared Responsibility

As more travelers seek experiences that align with their values, the concept of ethical and sustainable tourism is gaining traction. For adventure travelers, the connection between nature and travel experiences is deeply intertwined. Whether skiing on snow-capped peaks or hiking through ancient forests, these outdoor adventures are increasingly threatened by climate change and environmental degradation.

Basecamp Resorts’ partnerships with POW Canada and veritree represent a proactive step toward ensuring that the natural wonders of Western Canada are protected and preserved for future explorers. For travelers who care about the environmental impact of their trips, supporting businesses and organizations that prioritize sustainability can help amplify the collective effort to safeguard these irreplaceable landscapes.
