Known for its breathtaking mountains, this charming town offers everything from leisurely strolls to challenging hikes that require serious alpine skills. Whether you’re seeking a quick nature escape or an all-day adventure, Revelstoke has something for everyone. Here’s a guide to some of the best hikes you can explore this summer.
Short and Scenic Hikes
Sutherland Falls: This waterfall is one of the most accessible in Revelstoke. Located in Blanket Creek Provincial Park, the flat trail leads you to a stunning lookout with ease. It’s perfect for a quick, beautiful nature fix.
Begbie Falls: For a short yet rewarding hike, head to Begbie Falls via the Mount Begbie Forest Service Road. The trail is steep in parts but offers a picturesque journey through the forest to the falls and a scenic beach. If you’re up for a longer trek, start from the Begbie Bluffs parking area off Highway 23S and enjoy a 3km hike through the woods.
Moses Falls: Another easy-to-reach waterfall, Moses Falls is located just 6.1km down Westside Road off Highway 1. A short walk from the parking area brings you to the river and the base of the falls—a great spot for a peaceful break.
Nels Nelsen Ski Jump: This hike combines stunning views with a bit of history. Located in Mount Revelstoke National Park, the trail offers a steep but non-technical climb to the historic Nels Nelsen ski jump. The trailhead is accessible by foot from town, starting behind the railway museum.
Moderate Alpine Adventures
Eva and Miller Lakes (7.1km one way): This beautiful alpine hike starts at the summit of Mount Revelstoke National Park. Drive up the Meadows in the Sky Parkway to Balsam Lake, then hike through sub-alpine forests and meadows to reach the stunning Eva Lake, one of Revelstoke’s iconic spots. A short detour will also take you to the serene Miller Lake. For experienced hikers, the more challenging Jade Lakes trail awaits beyond Eva Lake.
Asulkan Valley Trail (6.9km one way): This trail offers a mix of mountains, waterfalls, and glaciers. Starting at the Illecillewaet campground in Glacier National Park, the hike leads through lush rainforest into an alpine valley, ending with a steep climb to the Asulkan Hut. The trail offers incredible views of the Illecillewaet Glacier and the surrounding valleys.
Challenging High-Alpine Treks
Mount Begbie (6km one way): Known as Revelstoke’s iconic peak, Mount Begbie offers a strenuous hike to the glacier’s edge. The trail, beginning near Mount Macpherson Nordic Lodge, is a steep ascent through dense forest and into alpine terrain. The reward is a breathtaking view of the town and Columbia Valley from the tarn below the glacier. For those prepared with advanced glacier travel and rope skills, summiting Mount Begbie is a must—but be cautious of lingering avalanche risks even after the snow has cleared.
Revelstoke’s diverse range of hikes provides something for every adventurer. Whether you’re looking for a short, scenic walk or a challenging alpine climb, these trails offer unforgettable experiences in one of British Columbia’s most beautiful regions.
