Georgina is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to host the fourth annual Dynamic Funds Georgina Marathon & Half-Marathon, along with 10k and 5k races on Sept. 8. More than 1,400 runners will line up at De La Salle Park, with the first wave of athletes set to start at 7:00 a.m.
This year’s marathon is particularly appealing for those aiming for a Boston Marathon qualifying time. The race offers a rare ‘double-dip’ qualification opportunity, meaning runners can use their times to qualify for either the 2025 or 2026 Boston Marathon.
Co-race director Cindy Lewis-Caballero emphasizes the value of this feature: “This race is a ‘double-dip’ qualifier, which makes it a big draw for athletes targeting Boston.”
While the marathon draws serious contenders, the half-marathon, covering 21.1 kilometers, remains the favorite distance among participants. This certified race continues to attract a large number of runners, with past winners in the 10k and 5k events also coming back to challenge themselves in new ways.
The event has become a staple in the community since its start in 2021, thanks in large part to the support from the Town of Georgina and local businesses. Co-race director Sandie Orlando notes the ongoing partnership with Dynamic Funds as the presenting sponsor and acknowledges other supporters such as Buchner Manufacturing, The Briars Resort and Spa, and sponsors like Gatorade, K Country 93.7, Apple Self Storage, Rally Beer, KT Tape, The Fix coffee cart, Floky, Marsquest, Global Citizen, CL Performance Training, CNIB, Red Feather, and TriSwim.
A free race expo will be held the day before the race, on Saturday, Sept. 7, at The Briars Resort from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is open to anyone interested in attending.
Looking ahead, the dates for 2025 are set with the Georgina Spring Fling scheduled for May 4 and the Georgina Marathon for September 7. Also new for 2024 is the Nutrience Oakville 21.1 half marathon, 10k & 5k, taking place on Sunday, September 29.
