Vancouver’s fall running season is heating up with two beloved races—the Granville Island Turkey Trot and the Great Trek presented by BlueShore Financial. Both events, part of the RUNVAN Race Series, offer exciting experiences for participants while supporting local charities and connecting the community.
This year’s Granville Island Turkey Trot, taking place on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 14, promises to be bigger than ever. The 10KM race offers scenic views as runners start on Granville Island, loop over the Burrard Bridge, and turn at Science World before heading back to the lively finish line. Participants will enjoy breathtaking sights of False Creek, making it an unforgettable way to kick off the holiday.
Families are also encouraged to join in the fun, with the 1KM Kids Run inviting children aged 6 to 13 to tackle an exciting challenge on Granville Island. And the costumes? They’re not just for Halloween! Prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed runners, along with medals for top finishers in age categories.
Race Director Eric Chéné expressed his excitement about this year’s turnout, saying, “We’re beyond excited by the incredible response to this year’s Granville Island Turkey Trot, that has reached a record capacity of 2,000 participants.” The 10KM race sold out in record time, and the Kids Run hit full capacity as well.
But it’s not just about the race—runners are coming together to give back.
“Seeing the community come together to support local charities like the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Surrey Food Bank, and SHARE Family and Community Services, raising over $10,000, is inspiring,” Chéné adds.
With a spirit of fun and charity, the event is set to be a feel-good experience for all.
Great Trek – A Journey Through Nature and Giving
The race excitement doesn’t end with Thanksgiving. Later in October, RUNVAN will host the Great Trek presented by BlueShore Financial, offering participants a unique chance to explore the natural beauty of Pacific Spirit Park. Dubbed “a jaunt through Musqueam Territory,” the Great Trek provides a peaceful yet challenging route for runners looking to enjoy the fall foliage while contributing to a great cause.
This year, runners have already raised over $15,000 for BC Children’s Hospital, continuing the series’ strong charitable tradition.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or just enjoying the festive atmosphere, both the Granville Island Turkey Trot and the Great Trek offer something for every runner. From fun costumes to scenic views and meaningful charitable contributions, these races embody the spirit of Vancouver’s running community.
