As the leaves begin to change and the crisp air of autumn fills the streets, Ottawa is set to host one of the most anticipated events of the year: Canada Army Run. Scheduled for Sept. 22, this event offers participants a unique opportunity to run, walk, or roll alongside members of the Canadian Army, past some of Ottawa’s most iconic landmarks. For those who prefer a more flexible schedule, the virtual races will take place from Sept. 6 to 27, allowing participants to join from anywhere in the world.
Embrace the Challenge In-Person
There’s something truly special about participating in Canada Army Run in person. The energy and camaraderie among participants are palpable as you make your way through the scenic course that winds past Parliament Hill and other notable sites. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a beginner, the event welcomes individuals of all abilities and fitness levels.
The in-person race is steeped in military tradition. From the cannon used as a “starter’s pistol” to the “dog tag” medals soldiers place around all participants’ necks at the finish line, this unique event is military from start to finish. The meticulous organization includes kilometre markers to keep you on track, water stations to keep you hydrated, and portable toilets conveniently located near aid stations. The support along the route ensures you can focus on the journey and the incredible sights along the way.
“It’s exciting and inspiring to run with our veterans, active service members and the 10,000-plus participants,” said Ryan Butler, a Canada Army Run ambassador. “The support from spectators and fellow runners truly elevates this experience. And let’s not forget the course. You run by some impressive locations, all intended to heighten the experience and circling back to the reason(s) we are running Canada Army Run in the first place.”
The registration fee also includes exclusive Canada Army Run merchandise, on-course amenities, and post-race nutrition to help you recover and celebrate your accomplishment.
Virtual Races: Your Race, Your Pace
For those who can’t make it to Ottawa, the virtual race option offers a fantastic alternative. Between Sept. 6 and 27, you can complete your race at your own pace, on your own route, or even on a treadmill. This flexibility makes it easier than ever to participate, no matter where you are.
Virtual participants will also receive a race kit, which includes exclusive Canada Army Run merchandise and a dog tag finisher’s medal. You can track and upload your results using the ASICS Runkeeper App, a connected fitness device, or manual time upload, allowing you to see how you stack up on the global leaderboard.
A Cause Worth Running For
Beyond the personal achievement and the joy of participation, Canada Army Run is about supporting the Canadian Armed Forces community. Over the years, participants have raised more than $4.7 million, making a significant impact on the lives of service members and their families. This year, you can contribute by starting your own fundraising campaign, with tools and resources provided to help you maximize your efforts.
Stories of Inspiration
The Canada Army Run is filled with inspiring stories of resilience and dedication. Participants like Noémie Labbé-Roy, who runs with her son in support of her husband, a retired captain in the Canadian Army, embody the spirit of the event. These stories remind us of the sacrifices made by our service members and the importance of showing our support.
A Community United
More than anything, Canada Army Run is about Canadians and the Canadian Armed Forces – Air Force, Army, and Navy – joining together in the spirit of camaraderie and community. It’s a chance for the troops to extend the military esprit de corps to Canadians and to thank them for their support. And, it’s an opportunity for Canadians to say thanks to the men and women who serve them in so many ways at home and abroad.

Whether you’re joining the in-person race in Ottawa or participating virtually from your hometown, Canada Army Run is an event that promises to be both fun and motivational.
