The 2025 Toronto Marathon is one of the premiere running events in the country attended by thousands of eager participants looking to clock fast times and enjoy an iconic race in Canada’s largest city. It’s downhill. It’s scenic. And it’s fast. And this year’s event is scheduled for May 4 with full marathon, half-marathon, 10K and 5K run and walk categories.
From elite athletes chasing record times to first-time marathoners determined to complete the distance, the Toronto Marathon is more than just a race; it’s a journey of perseverance and personal triumph that winds through some of the city’s most spectacular neighbourhoods and scenic routes.
Many people site the scenery as one of the main reasons for choosing the Toronto Marathon, as runners can take in scenes like Casa Loma and other iconic tourist spots in addition to participating in a fantastic event.
Last year, there were logistical challenges, which race director Jay Glassman acknowledges, and has worked hard alongside the City of Toronto and Toronto Police Service to ensure a well-run event without hiccups this time around.
“We want every runner to have an unforgettable experience, whether they’re chasing a personal best or simply soaking in the energy of race day,” Glassman says.
Runners will notice changes at the finish area, including a longer walk to the Queen Elizabeth Building for post-race food and a slight course adjustment at Bayview, where a newly accessible park is now incorporated. Additionally, the race has moved kit pickup from Exhibition Place to the Sheraton Centre in downtown Toronto, making it more accessible via subway and extending the pickup period from a day and a half to four days.

Toronto itself plays a starring role in this race, offering a scenic backdrop that takes runners through a vibrant urban landscape, past historic landmarks, and through the city’s charming neighbourhoods. The course brings new challenges, but the heart of the race remains the same—pushing limits, embracing the journey, and coming together.
