The Largest Ski Resort in Atlantic Canada Is Up for Sale

The Provincial Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has announced a unique opportunity for those passionate about skiing and outdoor adventure. They’ve officially issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the purchase of Marble Mountain Ski Resort, with a vision to transform the beloved hill into a year-round destination full of potential. This move opens the door for a buyer who shares the same love for the slopes and sees the resort’s ability to grow and thrive in all seasons.

As the largest ski hill in Atlantic Canada, Marble Mountain has long been a favourite for thrill-seekers. With its 519-metre vertical drop, 64 hectares of prime skiable terrain, and a state-of-the-art lift system (including the region’s only high-speed detachable quadruple chairlift), it’s no wonder that 65,000 skiers flock to the resort every year. Whether you’re an expert skier or just starting out, Marble Mountain offers a thrilling experience with its 39 runs.

But the government’s vision isn’t just about skiing—this RFP opens the door to transforming Marble Mountain into a year-round playground. From hiking in the summer to exploring new winter sports, the opportunities for expansion are endless.

“The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has taken a measured approach to the divestiture of the Marble Mountain Ski Resort,” said Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation. “We have consulted with experts on the best path forward and we have assessed interest in the property through our recent Expression of Interest process. We are committed to placing the resort in the hands of the private sector, as they possess the financial capabilities to fully realize the immense potential of Marble Mountain Ski Resort, an asset of great significance to the region and its future.”

The move comes after recommendations from both the Premier’s Economic Recovery Team, led by Dame Moya Greene, and the Rothschild & Co. report, which pointed to the resort’s potential for increased investment and economic growth through a strategic divestiture.

Since 2022, the provincial government has been rolling out upgrades, with new additions designed to position Marble Mountain for year-round appeal and make it an even more attractive purchase for potential buyers.

The clock is ticking, as the deadline for proposals is set for April 9 at 2:00 p.m. NST. If you’ve ever dreamed of owning one of Canada’s most iconic ski resorts, now’s your chance! The full details of the RFP can be found online.
