Toronto Waterfront Marathon Expands to Full Weekend of Events

Toronto’s annual TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon, a staple in Canada’s running calendar, will now extend over two days, adding a new 5K race on Saturday, Oct. 19, before the traditional marathon and half marathon events on Oct. 20. This expansion transforms the event into a full weekend racing extravaganza, aligning it with major marathon events globally.

The addition of the 5K aims to enhance the participant experience by offering a more diverse range of races. This move also caters to different levels of runners, from elite athletes to casual weekend joggers. The 5K will commence at Nathan Phillips Square, the iconic start and finish line shared with Sunday’s marathon and half marathon, promising an energetic and unified backdrop for all events.

Registration for the 5K is now open with a cap of 8,000 participants. Organizers expect spots to fill quickly due to high demand. Registered participants for the marathon (42K) or half marathon (21K) received an access link for an exclusive discounted rate to add the 5K to their race weekend.

The marathon weekend not only promises competitive racing but also an opportunity for runners to achieve personal bests in a supported and vibrant environment. All finishers of the 5K will receive medals and the same high-quality ASICS technical t-shirt provided to marathon participants.

The race schedule is designed to ensure a smooth experience for all participants. The 5K race will start at 9 a.m., with waves of runners setting off until 9:25 a.m. This staggered start helps manage the flow of participants and enhances the overall race experience.

For those looking for an ultimate endurance challenge, the option to compete in both the 5K on Saturday and the marathon or half marathon on Sunday presents a formidable but rewarding test. This setup not only serves as a perfect warm-up for more prolonged races but also offers athletes a chance to enjoy back-to-back races in the heart of downtown Toronto.
